With the parting of a leopard-print curtain and the flash of cameras, the David and Helen Gurley Brown Institute for Media Innovation officially opened Sept.

Columbia University President Lee C. Bollinger today announced his appointment of Amale Andraos as the next dean of the University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.

Rosalia Polanco, who plans to attend Davidson College in North Carolina in the fall, expects to become the first college graduate in her family. Her classmate Jonathan Montalvo, winner of a prestigious scholarship, will study physics and English at Middlebury College.

Alondra Nelson and Sharon Marcus become divisional deans in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, effective July 1. Nelson, professor of sociology and director of the Institute for Research on Women, Gender, and Sexuality, was named Dean of Social Sciences.

Columbia University Provost John H. Coatsworth has appointed Jennifer Crewe as president and director of Columbia University Press. Crewe has served as interim director for the past nine months and has worked at the Press for three decades.
