The Strategic Communications group within the Office of Communications and Public Affairs manages various communications efforts and vehicles other than media relations activities. This group is responsible for the news and events links and photo gallery on the University homepage and the news section of the University website; The Record, the University's flagship paper; Columbia Creative; video production; and photographic services. The group also manages University-wide advertising and digital strategy, and provides strategic communications counsel to schools, centers, and academic programs.
For Columbia, the challenge of "branding" means providing clear, unified identity standards that allow the many parts of the University to leverage the greatest strength of Columbia's name and reputation in ways that support the mission of each individual unit. For more information on the University’s identity standards, visit www.columbia.edu/identityguidelines.
The news section of www.columbia.edu features news from across Columbia, told through articles, photo galleries, and video. The news site focuses on research innovation, the New York community, Columbia's engagement and impact in the world, and stories about campus life from all three of Columbia campuses. Faculty, staff, and students are welcome to submit a story idea.
The University's flagship paper, The Record, is published during the academic year and distributed to 21,000 faculty, staff, students, and other readers. The newspaper may be found at free newsstands around campus and is also available by subscription. Regular editorial features include a staff profile, faculty profile, academic milestones, research news, and books by faculty.
Columbia Creative works across the Columbia community to produce high-quality print, web, and marketing communications for student recruitment, fundraising, events, and institutional awareness. The office offers a wide range of services, including long-term communications planning, design, print production and distribution, and marketing campaigns, as well as signage, banners, and logos that reflect the University identity.
The Office of Photographic services supports the University's photo needs. To arrange for a photographer to cover your event, or take head shots or other kinds of photos, contact the University Photographer.
