Gerald L. Curtis

A former director of the U.S.-Japan Parliamentary Exchange Program as well as Columbia’s Weatherhead East Asian Institute (then known as the East Asian Institute), Curtis has been honored with The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star by the government of Japan for his outstanding contributions to the study of Japan and the promotion of intellectual and political exchange between Japan and the United States. His political commentaries appear in both English and Japanese media.

Carol Gluck

Gluck, an authority on present-day Japan, is a recipient of that nation’s highest civilian honor, the Order of the Rising Sun. Her scholarship focuses on modern Japan and its intellectual history, international relations, post-war Japanese history, historiography, and public memory in Japan and the West. She writes a regular column for Newsweek Japan, lectures in the United States and abroad, and is active in efforts to improve the teaching of Asia and history in the schools.

David Weinstein
