Brown Bag Lecture Speaker: Klaus Mühlhahn, Chair Professor of Chinese History and Culture, FU Berlin Moderated by: Madeleine Zelin, Dean Lung Professor of Chinese Studies; Professor of History, Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures and Department of History, Columbia University Summary: In this talk, Klaus Mühlhahn will discuss his new book, Making China Modern, which moves beyond the standard framework of Cold War competition and national resurgence. Mühlhahn situates twenty-first-century China in the nation’s long history of creative adaptation. Telling a story of crisis and recovery, Making China Modern explores the versatility and resourcefulness that matters most to China’s survival, and to its future possibilities.
