New Deans Named for Engineering and Journalism Schools
|Mary Cunningham Boyce Appointed Dean of Columbia's School of Engineering and Applied Science

Columbia University President Lee C. Bollinger has announced his appointment of Mary Cunningham Boyce as the new Dean of the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, effective July 1, 2013. Professor Boyce comes to Columbia after more than 25 years at MIT, where she is currently the Ford Professor of Engineering and Department Head of Mechanical Engineering.
|Steve Coll Appointed as New Dean of Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism

Columbia University President Lee C. Bollinger has announced his appointment of two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Steve Coll as the new Dean of the Graduate School of Journalism, effective July 1, 2013. Coll replaces Nicholas Lemann, who has served as dean since 2003.

Professor Pamela Smith has been named the Seth Low Professor of History and Volker Berghahn has become the Seth Low Professor Emeritus of History.
Professor Adam Sobel won a two-year, $341,600 AXA Award in Climate and Extreme Weather from the AXA Research Fund. Sobel will use the funds to study the local dynamics and global patterns of extreme weather events.
