Helping Hands Food Drive

October 31, 2023 - November 21, 2023
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
America/New_York
Haven Plaza, Haven Avenue between Fort Washington Avenue and 169th Street

As the holiday season approaches, please join us in supporting local residents in need. The annual Helping Hands Food Drive, a partnership of the Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Fresh Youth Initiatives, will be accepting nonperishable food items now through Tuesday, November 21.

Drop off nonperishable food items in bins located throughout the campus:

• Allan Rosenfield lobby (MSPH, 722 W. 168th St.)

• Hammer Health Sciences Center Lower Level lobby (701 W. 168th St.)

• Black Building lobby (650 W. 168th St.)

• School of Nursing lobby (560 W. 168th St.)

Additional drop off location on November 14:
CUIMC Fall Festival at Haven Plaza
11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The Fresh Youth Initiatives Helping Hands Food Bank, which has been feeding thousands of people in the Washington Heights/Inwood community for the past 19 years, will distribute all donations. Each year, the food bank distributes more than 80,000 pounds of nonperishables. This youth-operated food bank provides much-needed food for our most vulnerable neighbors, especially during the holiday season.

Although all nonperishable items are welcome, the following are especially appreciated by the community:

• Beans (dried, canned)

• Grains (brown rice, oatmeal, pasta)

• Canned fish (tuna, salmon)

• Cooking oils (olive, canola)

• Seasoning (salt, pepper)

• Canned fruits and vegetables (cranberry sauce, unsweetened applesauce, tomatoes, soup, vegetables)

We hope you will donate at least one food item and encourage your co-workers to do the same. Your donation will help us aid those who need it most. For further information about the food drive, contact the CUIMC Office of Government & Community Affairs at 212-305-8060 or via email at [email protected].
