FACULTY

ARTS & HUMANITIES

Phillip Lopate (CC’64), professor in the Writing Program at School of the Arts, has been inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

SCIENCE & MEDICINE

Ashley Graham-Perel, assistant professor of nursing, was awarded the Alice Fisher Fellowship Award from the Barbara Bates Center for the Study of the History of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania.

Denise Kandel, professor emerita of sociomedical sciences in psychiatry, received the Joseph Zubin award from the American Psychopathological Association earlier this month. The award is given to an individual who has played a fundamental role in psychopathology research.

Rossella Labella, postdoctoral research scientist at the Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics, has been awarded the inaugural Walkers Scholar Fellowship at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center (HICCC) at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Columbia’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (VP&S). 

ENGINEERING

Josh Alman, assistant professor of computer science; Ronghui Gu, Tang Family Assistant Professor of Computer Science; and ​​Christian Kroer, assistant professor of industrial engineering and operations research, were recognized by the National Science Foundation with its Early Career Development (CAREER) award, one of the highest honors for young faculty. 

STUDENTS

Joric Barber, Julia Quinn, and Hou-Ya Wang, students in Columbia Engineering’s MS Bridge Program, were named Lustgarten-Whitney Fellows. The fellowship helps support highly qualified students from underrepresented and nontraditional backgrounds pursuing a degree in computer science through the Bridge program.

Stanislav DeLaurentiis (CC’23) has been named a 2023 Gates Cambridge Scholar for his work in astrophysics. Next fall, DeLaurentiis will pursue a PhD in applied mathematics and theoretical physics at the University of Cambridge, focusing on proposing alternative pathways to black hole mergers. 

Jingping Nie, Columbia Engineering PhD student, was among the 22 recipients selected from universities around the world for the 2023 Apple Scholars in AI/ML PhD fellowship.

STAFF

David M. Greenberg, executive vice president for University Facilities and Operations, was named to New York Build’s “Construction Idols” shortlist for 2023, which recognizes leaders in New York City’s construction industry.
