Nov. 6 & 7: Listening Tables on Election Week

The main idea of Listening Tables is to provide a space where difficult and sometimes deeply polarizing issues can be addressed through dialogue rather than debate and hostile confrontation. Our initiative seeks to model a new way of working through conflicts in our community based on mutual respect, and we want to ensure that students joining these sessions can be confident that they will be listened to without judgment.

This forum will explore not only the politics of this cycle but also the ways in which those politics — and the politicians — were framed, reported on and examined in our media coverage. This conversation is meant to be candid, self-critical, and a starting place to begin thinking about the administration that will take office in 2025 and what this election means for the United States and the world.

In the aftermath of the 2024 election, we will dive into the key points that influenced the final days of the election, whether or not the polls got it right this year, and what changes the new administration might bring. Join us to hear leaders in the field of political analytics discuss key insights from the 2024 election. This panel discussion will highlight the importance of political analytics days after the conclusion of this year's election.

Nov. 19: Evening in America: Global Perspectives on the U.S. Election Results

Join Adam Tooze, prize-winning author and historian at Columbia University, for a provocative discussion about the impact of the US elections on Brazil, Tunisia and Turkey. In a follow up event to Morning in America, which provided global perspectives ahead of election day, Evening in America, will present the Directors of the Columbia Global Centers in Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul, and Tunis who will share their analysis on how people in their regions are talking about the process, results, and what is at stake now that the 2024 election in the United States is over.
