The Oldest Resident on Campus

Columbia's oldest and largest tree sits illuminated in the dark in front of the Math building in July.

The oldest resident on Columbia's Morningside campus just so happens to be an American sycamore (Platanus occidentalis). The tree, which sits regally in front of the Mathematics building, was estimated to be about 125 years old, according to Bradley Larson, grounds manager with Columbia Facilities, in 2019.
