Western “enablement” of corruption and kleptocracy in Eastern Europe has been said to frustrate democratic political development in Eastern Europe. Please join us for a panel discussion with Eastern European experts Charles Davidson, publisher of The American Interest magazine; Nino Evgenidze, Executive Director at the Economic Policy Research Center in Tbilisi, Georgia; Daria Kaleniuk, co-founder of the Anti-corruption Action Centre, Ukraine; and Miranda Patrucic, an investigative reporter based in Sarajevo. Professor Jenik Radon will moderate. PANELISTS: Daria Kaleniuk, co-founder of the Anti-corruption Action Centre, Ukraine, expert on stolen assets recovery and anti-money laundering, fought to freeze Western assets of Yanukovych and his associates during the Maidan protests. Kaleniuk, a Fulbright Scholar, has a MA in Financial Services Law from Chicago-Kent College of Law. Charles Davidson is publisher of The American Interest magazine, co-founder of Global Financial Integrity and former Executive Director of the Kleptocracy Initiative at Hudson Institute. Davidson has testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Helsinki Commission, and Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats. He graduated from Bowdoin College and has a MBA from Duke University. Nino Evgenidze, Executive Director at the Economic Policy Research Center in Tbilisi, Georgia. Evgenidze was an advisor at the Center for Economic Reforms of the State Chancellery of Georgia (Presidential Administration) and Head of the Public Outreach Department of the Anti-Corruption Policy Coordination Council of Georgia. Evgenidze has a Master’s degree from LSE and Vienna University and a PhD from Tbilisi State University. Miranda Patrucic is an investigative reporter based in Sarajevo and is regional editor for OCCRP focusing on Central Asia, the Balkans and the Caucasus. Patrucic has exposed billion dollar telecom bribes in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, uncovered hidden assets of Azerbaijan's and Montenegro's ruling elites and exposed ties between organized crime, government and business in Montenegro. Patrucic is the recipient of the Knight International Journalism Award, the Global Shining Light Award, the IRE Tom Renner Award, the Daniel Pearl Award and the European Press Prize.
