As Veterans Week 2024 comes to a close at Columbia, we’re looking back at two moments—our float in the New York City Veterans Day Parade and the Columbia Military Ball—when the University community came together to celebrate our student veterans, alumni, staff, and Columbia’s long history of working alongside the military to support the brightest minds who answer the call to service.
Columbia is proud of our students, faculty, and staff who are veterans, and we are grateful for their service and sacrifice and the invaluable contributions they offer to our community. We are proud that there are more than 700 veterans enrolled as students at Columbia, more than all the other Ivy League universities combined.

“The experiences you have had, the talents you have acquired, and the values you live align so deeply with what we believe in, with what this institution shall and must stand for: dedicated to diversity of thought and background, to creativity and perseverance, and to community and a commitment to others,” said Columbia University Interim President Katrina Armstrong at the Military Ball. “Thank you for being part of this community.” Photo by Steve Myaskovsky.

Columbia’s Military Ball not only celebrates the Columbia and New York City veteran communities, proceeds help underwrite academic and career transition programming for all veterans and military family members nationwide, financial aid for veteran students at Columbia University, and veteran student and alumni programming.
