Pulitzer Administrator Accepts a New Role at Simon and Schuster

On July 27, Dana Canedy, administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes since 2017, will move on from her role to become Simon and Schuster's first Black female senior vice president and publisher of its namesake imprint.

“We’re incredibly proud of all the work that Dana has done to elevate and broaden the reach of the Pulitzers over the last three years,” said Columbia President Lee C. Bollinger. “On behalf of the entire University, I offer Dana my profound gratitude and I wish her success in this most well-deserved new role."

Canedy helped usher in a new era of representation for Pulitzer Prizes with its winners, board members and judges. She oversaw Kendrick Lamar's "DAMN." win in the music category in 2018 and a special citation in 2020 for Ida B. Wells's courageous reporting on lynching in the South.

Deputy Administrator Edward Kliment will act as interim administrator while the Pulitzer Board conducts a nationwide search for Canedy’s successor.
