Sam Sia, associate professor of Biomedical Engineering, and his team developed a smartphone dongle to bring diagnostic testing to remote areas where healthcare access is limited and funds are low. The device identifies markers of infectious and chronic diseases, hormonal imbalances and vitamin deficiencies with results available in as little as 15 minutes.
