U.N. Says Saudi Prince Had Role in Jamal Khashoggi’s Murder

June 19, 2019

A comprehensive report by Dr. Agnes Callamard, the special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions for the United Nations human rights agency, says “there is credible evidence warranting further investigation of high-level Saudi officials’ individual liability, including the crown prince’s,” in the murder last year of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

In a 100-page report, issued after a five-month investigation–the most thorough set of findings yet made public–Dr. Callamard called on the United Nations secretary general to establish an international criminal investigation to ensure accountability for the crime. Dr. Callamard also serves as the director of the Global Freedom of Expression Project at Columbia University.
