Columbia University Provost Mary C. Boyce today shared the news that Julie Kornfeld, vice provost for academic programs, will become the next president of Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.

“While we are delighted that Julie will bring her talents to this important role,” Boyce wrote in a letter to colleagues, “we are sad to see the departure of a leader who is so committed to the success of our students and the excellence of our academic programs.”

In her current role as vice provost for academic programs, Kornfeld provides strategic leadership for curricular offerings across Columbia’s undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools. Following a nationwide search, the Kenyon College Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the hiring of Kornfeld as their 20th president. She will begin her work at Kenyon on October 1, 2023.

“Julie Kornfeld is a brilliant epidemiologist, educator, and administrator who has served the Columbia community with great skill and judgment over the last seven years,” said Columbia President Lee C. Bollinger. “On behalf of the entire University, I offer my gratitude and my congratulations as she takes on this exciting new role as President of Kenyon College.”

Kornfeld came to Columbia in 2016 to serve as vice dean for education and associate professor of epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health. Previously, she was assistant dean, director of education, and assistant professor at University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine.
